Underground Rules and Guidelines
Welcome to the Underground! The Underground is a forum for participating in games of Mafia.
Whether you're a new Snail (what Underground regulars are affectionately called) or an old hat looking to brush up, the rules below are important to know so that we can keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone has the best possible time.
[li]If you intend to submit your own game, you need to have participated in at least one other game in this section first. The typical trend is to have five or six ongoing games at once.Whether you're a new Snail (what Underground regulars are affectionately called) or an old hat looking to brush up, the rules below are important to know so that we can keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone has the best possible time.
Rules for Game Masters
- Threads in the Underground are subject to moderator approval. That means before a game (or any other thread) you submit is visible to yourself or other players it needs to be accepted by a modearator. If you submit a thread and it isn't up within 24 hours, send the mod a private message and we'll either accept it or let you know why it was denied.
[li]In the UG, day phases typically last 48 hours whilst night phases last 24 hours. GMs must follow this standard day/night cycle unless otherwise discussed with the mods.
If you go over this time, you will be given a heads up to keep to the schedule. Upon a second delay you will receive an official warning. A third delay will result in the immediate closing of your thread or the game being transferred to a back up GM (a back up GM should be indicated in your OP). A day phase that extends beyond 96 hours or a night phase that extends beyond 48 hours will be considered delayed. Game masters who frequently delay their games may be barred from submitting new games for a period of two months. If you know in advance that you will have to extend the length of a phase, please make sure your players know too.[/li]
[li]Game masters in the Underground are subject to a one week "cooldown" period after finishing a game. This means that for a week after your game finishes you cannot submit another one to make sure other people get a chance to start their own. Similarly, you should only be running one game at a time (excluding special event games).[/li]
[li]Here in the Underground we play a lot of variants of mafia that are generally not played anywhere else. We're probably one of the most innovative mafia forums around. With that in mind we welcome a degree of creativty and customisation in your games but it's important that your games are still recognisable as mafia. Be sure to follow the guidelines below when creating a mafia game.
1. The number of people in the game must progressively decrease through the elimination of players.
2. There must be two or more competing factions.
3. There needs to be a day/night cycle or similar. If breaking the standard formula, make sure you discuss it with a moderator.
4. Work under the assumption that someone visiting from Epic Mafia, Town of Salem, etc. needs to be able to recognize your game as at least being related to/derived from traditional mafia.
[/li]
- Game masters have the right to deny members with a recent history of vegging (becoming inactive during a game) or rule breaking entry into their games or to remove players who become inactive or break rules from their active game. Personal problems with a member do not constitute a valid reason to do either of these things. The standard rule is missing two votes in a row, but this may be change depending on the GM's personal wishes.
Rules for Participants
[li]While you are welcome to have a general discussion of an active game on our Discord server, in-depth game discussion of an active game outside of that game's thread is prohibited - you cannot mention information that may break the game such as your role or suspicions of other players' roles. If you do so, you may be removed from the relevant game and, if you repeatedly break this rule, banned from our Discord server. The exception to this rule is discussion in chat rooms made specifically for a game such as mafia or cultist chats.[/li]
[li]Frequently breaking the rules of games or overly aggressive play can get you in some trouble. Be sure to follow the rules outlined in game threads as well as the general rules of the Underground and PC as a whole. Breaking a game's rules can result in your removal from that game. Continued bad behaviour may result in you being banned from the Underground altogether and receiving infractions. As with the Discord chat, whether or not this is permanent or not is up to moderator discretion.[/li]
[li]Have fun killing one another! Just remember to try and keep salt levels to a minimum. Some of us might take the game more seriously than others, but ultimately nothing should be personal because when you get down to it, we all just want to enjoy the game.[/li]

Other Information
- We have a Discord server for the Underground! We're pretty casual and lenient in there but the server should be treated as an extension of the UG. This means that all of Playwrite's rules also apply to our Discord server. You can access our server here.
[li]The Underground is currently moderated by gimmepie, Bardothren, and Johnny, but if we're unavailable you can also contact higher staff with important queries that need immediate responses.[/li][/ul]
