This thread will be used to chronicle the progress we are making on upgrading Playwrite. Watch closely because a lot of changes will be coming for this community in the coming weeks.
Update as of 02/03/2018
- First and foremost, we have now purchased a domain name and server access so we can self host. We are not going to publicly give out this domain name yet as we are still working on setting everything up but you can expect it to be ready sooner rather than later.
- A new domain name and a new server does mean that we will technically be moving off of this site and onto another one. This will not be any work for you though. The staff are currently looking into backing up data from Proboards and exporting it and failing that, we will manually move all content from here to the completed Playwrite ourselves. The good news here though, is that we will not have to move ever again if we upgrade again in the future now that we have our own server.
- We are no longer going to be using the Flarum software. We actually installed Flarum first but quickly discovered that while it is a very innovative software that will be amazing when it's finished, it is currently far more incomplete than we originally believed. We knew going in that it was a beta software, we did not realise that it is still unsuitable for production. Instead we will be using a forum software called Vanilla. Vanilla is an open source software that comes packed with excellent features such as mobile integration and is very flexible in regards to customisation. We will be able to achieve much the same as originally intended using Vanilla, potentially more depending on the development team we are able to put together. You can read more about Vanilla's features here.
At this time we would also like to extend our thanks to those that, despite our insistence in handling funding ourselves, still contacted us with offers to donate to help further Playwrite's development. None of these offers have been taken as of yet, but it means a great deal to us that you were willing to personally contribute to the success of the community. That is currently all we have for you, but expect more updates over the next few days.
