Fairy Class, part 2 Kayrana waited patiently, playing with Whimsi and Aurai, until the teacher faced the classroom with a smile and presented herself, then she also asked a question to the class, which was about misconceptions people have about the Fairy-type. Overall, Kayrana thought Diantha was very well-behaved and just gave off a really nice vibe, so Kayra felt very at ease and pondered about the question. As she pondered, one student simply started speaking, but she paid no heed to it.
Misconceptions, uh? Ah, I know. Kayrana raised her hand and spoke up when the class fell silent for a moment. “Uhm, well, I’m not sure but maybe… people think Fairy Pokemon are not very good defensively which is most surely a falsehood,” she stated, a tint of unsureness on her voice, “like, maybe just because some people think they seem or look feeble, which isn’t actually the truth.” she said now, while Aurai just clambered right on top of her head, which made for a pretty funny sight; while Whimsi was staring at Diantha and her Pokeballs intensely. Kayrana was really hoping that answer was good enough for Diantha, but she hoped to learn more from this apparently great trainer. Will she show us her Pokemon? I'm eager to see!

Cyan sat down at the back of the class simply because he didn't want to stand out. The class was quite full, of people and Pokemon. There was even a Scyther at some point before the class started! After the class had officially begun, he paid close attention to Viola. He not only listened closely to what she said, trying not to scream " do you remember me from 7 years ago?". Well he didn't say anything because every time he thought of doing so, his courage just dwindled down. As soon as heard the question, Cyan forgot about his lack of courage and started extending his hand... But a girl answered it first. The girl he attempted to help... Dang it! Turns out she had some brains, and some spare, because that answer was complete. Seriously, it was hard to come up with something to add to that. Cyan started to think anything that she might have missed out. He started thinking to himself, "So that girl talked about how diversified the type is, and how they are able to easily adapt to many places. What can I do..." He had an answer. Cyan put his hand up and said: "Hmm... Bug types really are very adaptive, but from what I heard and learned from personal experience (quick glance towards Tesla, that was attached to his sleeve), bug types normally excel in their movesets and not raw power, being able to use moves such as Tail Glow, Quiver Dance, Sticky Web, U-Turn and others. If some of them were to rely solely on their base stats, the Bug type might not have been this good. For example, Volcarona can learn Quiver and Fiery Dance, both moves that help boost its stats and might give a way to beat their weaknesses, such as rock (quick glace to Lara, that was laying under his desk). Also, before I forget, the only Bug that actually has 'Adaptability' as an ability is Mega Beedrill. Cyan was really proud of his answer, then he noticed that most of the class was staring at him now, so he just kept quiet after that, hoping people would just look away. Party

Rylie mindlessly brushed the cotton fluff off her desk. After several weeks of Pokémon being just about everywhere small things like this hardly bothered her anymore. Looking up from her seat she gave a quick look over the Whimsicott’s trainer “Orange hair huh? I wonder if she dyes it…” she thought to herself momentarily before the teacher began to address the class.
“Misconceptions huh?” she thought to herself, having a hard time coming up with any. Of course, she could give any text book answers about them however where she came from fairy type Pokémon were a scarcity, only trainers moving in from other areas having one, leaving her rather unfamiliar with any misconceptions they may have. Perhaps she could go the easy route and call them girly? It was a bit juvenile but maybe it was the answer she was looking for. “No, I better play it safe and go with the only other one she was familiar with…” She thought to herself before rising her hand.
“One common misconception I’ve noticed is that many people seem to think my Vulpix is part fairy type. She is not, just Ice type.” Rylie answered with a bit of a dry tone. She understood the misconception of course, knowing that Kit would evolve into a fairy type someday and even knew a fairy type move. However that didn’t make her fairy type right now.

Arwyn - The Steel Type class!
Arwyn woke up early. He saw on his schedule that today would be a Steel Type Class. It was finally time to know how to properly take care of Klink! No more power outlet's for him! They are going to be a thing of the past! Klink is going to have to say goodbye to them. When morning came, it was time to Rise and Shine at 7 o'clock straight. No time to dilly-daddle! It's time for your steel type class! In Unova, there are no trainers that specialize in the steel type, so he wouldn't know what kind of teacher he could expect. A big burly man, with huge muscles, that looked just like a steel type? Yeah, that could be it!
However, when Arwyn entered the class, he was surprised to see a young girl instead. Arwyn nervously sat down. The teacher introduced herself as Jasmine, from the Johto region. Rosa might know who this is... Arwyn took out his Klink. She asked for people that have trouble looking after their steel types. Arwyn immediatly raised his hand. ''Uhm.. yes. I don't really know what I should give my Klink to eat. He has just been eating by sucking electricity out of Power Outlets.. he seems to really enjoy electricity... But I don't know if it's healthy for him. Klink doesn't have a mouth either.. so..'' Arwyn ended it there. A little awkward for sure. But he hoped that she could answer his question to let Arwyn care more for Klink.

Corrina Mondragon | 14 | Suicune| | | | | While waiting Corrina took notice of a male student who had also chosen a front row seat. A Piplup sat on their lap. Unlike her own this one didn't seem to cause a ruckus or demand attention. They sat still, unlike the Piplup she owned, and it made her feel as if she lacked the training to raise an obedient creature. In due time, she thought. In. Due. Time.
It was then that Jasmine had begun to speak.
"Good morning," Corrina had mumbled after her introduction. She observed the teacher, amused by her shy demeanor. However, as she progressed through her words, the image of Piplup began to invade her.
Ashamed of her behavior towards the penguin, Corrina decided to ask about the topic. Perhaps then she could acquire advice from such an expert.
She waited until the first student to speak finished their inquiry. "I, too, have a question," she began, her arm raised. "What are your recommendations and advice on the care of Beldum? In diet and hygiene, for example." While she wanted to ask about Piplup, the creature was not a steel-type yet. She assumed she'd have to go to a water-type expert for that. The last thing she wanted was for other students to think she was wasting time on a Pokémon whose typing this teacher knew little about.
Then it dawned on her. With such a calm Piplup, could she ask this stranger his way of raising such a Pokémon? She had only seen the pair for a meager minute, yet perhaps by the end of the classroom, if the Piplup displays such good behavior throughout, then she will bother him with her questions.

Diantha listened to what her students had to say, paying close attention to each answer before giving any response. "You're all correct, in different fashions. It may seem very silly but the simple fact is that a lot of people judge Pokemon on their appearance - they naturally assume that Pokemon which look strong are strong, but we know that this isn't true. Pokemon have characteristics based on their species, of course, but their strength is individual before we even begin to look at the impact we as Trainers have on them. When we look at the Fairy type we often find that peoples first thought about them is that they look weak or 'girly' - and that connection is a whole other gender politics class - but as this young lady pointed out this can work in the other direction too, some people confuse a Pokemons typing based on their appearance. This happens a lot, many people are still under the illusion that Luxray is a Dark Type Pokemon for instance, but is most common when it comes to the Fairy Type. Especially since it was a more recent discovery and we've come to realise that Pokemon were Fairy Types and we never knew, such as Jigglypuff."
"All of this means that people are easily confused about which Pokemon are Fairy, which aren't, what is and isn't effective against this typing and... well, you get the idea. Now, as Trainers one of our primary goals is often to win Pokemon Battles, yes?" Diantha smiled and crossed her arms. "Who can give me an example of how we can use the misconceptions, this confusion, surrounding Fairy Type Pokemon to our advantage?"
***
Jasmine made a very clear effort to really take in what her students were asking her, worried about accidentally giving someone the wrong information. "Oh. Um, well, when it comes to hygiene for Steel types people get it wrong a lot, to be honest... people worry about using water and making them rust, but really, it's not something to worry about too much, their bodies aren't made of metal in the same way a car or something is, it's not... um, it's not exactly the same substance. Something important though, I mean, I think, is making sure your Steel types aren't just clean but polished. Steel Type Pokemon take pride in their coats, generally speaking, and are usually much happier if you take the time to make sure they're nice and shiny. You, um, should be able to see your reflection in the healthiest Steel types, but, I mean, it depends on the species too. Mawlile is a Steel Type but not metallic, if... um, if that makes sense? Those sorts of Steel Pokemon don't quite need the same specialist care. You can buy products caring for your Steel Pokemons coats at most Pokemarts. They're often put in with the cosmetic stuff but... well, I think they're more important than that..."
"I'm really glad you asked about Klinks diet though... a lot of people get that wrong," Jasmine smiled a little, "People used to think that Klinks rotation gave it energy, like it powered itself. But we know now that they need energy from other sources too. We're still not clear if they need that energy to keep spinning, and spinning gives them energy, so they need energy to give themselves energy or... um... well, it's still being researched. But yes, your Klink is fine to take in electricity and will be happy for it. I think there are special charging stations in the cafeteria? I haven't been there in a while, but they should be there... um, as for Beldum, they take in metals and minerals. How they do it in the wild is... kind of unpleasant, but you can ask for meals for them at the cafeteria too. You can get Pokemon Food too, that they don't mind, if you're travelling and don't want to carry their normal diet around, but they prefer their normal food."
"With Steel Types, their greatest strength is usually their incredible defensive properties, so making sure your Pokemon is healthy with the right diet is really important to keep them and their coat strong. Um, but they're not without their weaknesses, of course. Can anyone give an example?"
***
"Yes!" Viola exclaimed, "Exactly right! Bug Types are often able to learn a wide variety of moves in terms of what they do, what Type they are, even some moves that only Bug Types can use. Now, another area that Bug Pokemon are so adaptable when compared to others is in their evolution. A great deal of Bug Type Pokemon evolve much, much sooner than other Pokemon even from the same region, experiencing a boost in power relatively early." She gestured to some of the photographs she'd put up in order to illustrate her point, pointing out Caterpie and Weedle. "However, this isn't the case for all of them. Some don't evolve at all, like Durant, or can take a long time like Larvesta. The incredible variety this typing displays is a wonderful thing, but it can also be really challenging, both when you train them and when you come up against them. Can anyone give me some reasons why this might be?"
Once again Sydneys hand went into the air almost before Viola finished her question. "Well, when we talk about the variety in their moves, it gives us a lot of choice as Trainers, but that can be difficult in its own right. And when we face someone using a Bug Type Pokemon it can be difficult to know what to expect, their large selection of potential moves can make them unpredictable."
"Well, very good, that's certainly correct!" Viola responded. "But let's open up a question to the rest of the classroom. When we look at Bug Pokemon and the moves they can learn there certainly is a lot of variety, but we also see some common themes. Can anyone give me examples of the sorts of moves Bug Pokemon - on the whole - seem to have most often?"

Arwyn was glad to know Klink is fine using Electricity as food. And he did see a few charging stations at the cafetaria, looks like those work on Klink. Cool! And Arwyn can just wash Klink with water, got it. He wasn't sure if Klink liked water or not, but it looks like it's fine. Defensive properties huh? That was certainly true for Klink. He is very hard, and you can't get through it easily. He does have weaknesses though. He thinks back to Ivrant's Sandygast.
''Uhm.. I'm pretty sure steel types are weak to ground type Pokémon, are they not?''

Corrina Mondragon | 14 | Suicune| | | | | Notes were jotted down simultaneously as Corrina glanced over to the only other student who had dared ask a question. A Klink was floating beside him.
"... um, as for Beldum," Jasmine at last touched on Beldum, immediately rewarding her with the girl's attention. She wasn't incorrect to say unpleasant, for they weren't exactly herbivores but predators that hack and slash their opponents once they're close.
Her advice was not ignored as her words were recorded for Corrina's knowledge.
"Um, but they're not without their weaknesses, of course. Can anyone give an example?"
Fighting, ground, and fire, she mentally responded. But before she could raise her hand and demand attention another had responded in her place. As had happened with the previous question, the same student spoke first. ''Uhm.. I'm pretty sure steel types are weak to ground type Pokémon, are they not?'' He's correct.
"If I may also add," Corrina spoke up with confidence and a strong voice to be heard throughout the classroom, "Fire is another."

Fairy Class (part 3)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kayrana listened intently as Diantha talked; she found Diantha to be very thoughtful about what she spoke about, and how she spoke, taking into account what every student had said, and doing it with such grace. Right now Aurai was in Kayra’s lap. Meanwhile, Whimsi had laid on its back on the backpack and was looking to the ceiling, swinging its little legs. Finally, Diantha smiled and asked another question, which made Kayrana ponder about her own Pokemon. She seemed to be the first to raise her hand and was very excited to talk about Aurai. “I’m not one to like battles much but, well, I’ve had people in the past think Aurai,” she lifted her in the air and smiled, “was a Grass-Type. I mean, everyone knows Ralts as a Psychic Pokemon, but some may not know about its recently-discovered Fairy nature. This may prove useful as a surprise against Dragon Pokemon. Now, for joyful Whimsi here,” she continued, pointing at the fluffball sleeping, “Fairy moves will be of use against Fighting-types; especially against Fighting Pokemon which are also strong against Grass-Types, like Infernape, serving as a counter-measure.” Kayrana thought that answer was good enough and left it at that, glancing around the room at the people who answered and at Diantha every now and then; jotting down some notes too. Aurai and Whimsi were now talking; Aurai on Kayra's lap, and Whimsi who was jumping around near Kayrana.

Day 3 (I don't know what to put here...)
Oh boy, here we go. This should be easy for Cyan, since ALL of his Pokemon are bugs. He first thought about which moves his Pokemon had in common. String Shot, Absorb... and that was it. Max shared no moves with the other 2 as well. There must be a theme here, but Cyan couldn't figure what was it. He then tried to think of moves other Bug Pokemon have, and he came up with an answer. He extended his hand, only later realizing that Tesla was stuck to his sleeve: "Well, from what I know, most of the young bugs such as a Caterpie and Scatterbug tend to have String Shot and other moves that stop their targets from moving. This may be because their other moves at that stage aren't particularly powerful. Their coverage isn't the greatest either at that stage, having to use normal or grass moves, and some have weak bug moves. This changes when they grow, getting more coverage and more powerful moves, or at least I hope it does... Wait, is that why some bugs evolve so quickly?"Party Lara ♀ Tesla ♂ Max♀

Speaking Up
Desmond Allen Age: 13
Well, Viola totally called his bluff, as she asked everyone with larger Pokemon to return them to their balls. Just to seem like he wasn't totally betraying himself though, he took his time before finally putting Ares away, giving him a sympathetic shrug. Meanwhile, Viola was asking questions of the class. and it seemed only a couple students were answering them. This girl in the front seemed to be extra knowledgeable on the subject of Bug types, bordering on know it all status. The other, a guy, seemed ready to burst out of his seat for some reason. Desmond didn't realize people got so excited about Bug types. In his defiance though Desmond had missed what the first one question was but was ready for the second.
"Let's see, what kinds of moves did Bug types typically have..." Desmond pondered to himself. He thought about Leo and Ares and their movesets. The two didn't really share any attacking moves but they did share another kind of move. "Well most bugs tend to have stat increasing or decreasing moves like Swords Dance, Quiver Dance, String Shot, etc... so as to offset their lack of pure power or speed that other types benefit from." Desmond felt confident in his response as he leaned back in his seat.

Ivrant was quick to answer this one. He knew just how to take advantage of such a situation. "Well, Buster here happens to know Belly Drum. I doubt you could tell from a glance he was a fairy type. Against the right type you could easily take advantage of that and properly set up without risk right?" Ivrant said, patting Buster on the head who just seemed to be wobbling left and right eager to get moving again. He never really thought of using the lack of knowledge on fairy types to his advantage but he highly doubted experienced trainers were going to let Ivrant get away with something so silly. He just didn't see that happening. It was still nice to know though.

More Steel type Class weee
Tobias listened, as Jasmine gave some general informatino about taking care of Steel type pokémon. He took out a notebook , and a pen from his backpack and wrote down what he thought was more useful to his pokemon. So i should make sure to polish Ike, and well, Piplup isn't a Steel type yet, and well I'm not sure if she wants to evolve or not so i'll leave that for another time He thought, as some of the other students answered Jasmine's questions. "Fighting is also a weakness of the Steel type," He said "but um, some Steel types, like Honedge, are also a Ghost type, granting them an immunity from Fighting type attacks". After he was done answering the question, he took a look at some of the other students that seemed interesting, a girl that asked about Beldum, perhaps she owns one? He wondered then noticed guy that had a Klink floating near his trainer. An interesting pokemon to raise, i guess its like Ike in a way.. speaking of Ike "I apologize if i'm interrupting," He said, raising his hand "I don't have much trouble feeding Ike, my Honedge, but i was wondering if there was any other way to feed him? Well he doesn't take much from my life energy.. but it usually makes me tired faster than i thought" He patted Amy's head gently, as he awaited for Jasmine's reply.

Rylie raised her brow a bit at the orange haired girl’s answer. Sure, fairy type moves were strong against fighting type pokemon however Infernape was a fire type as well which resisted fairy type, making a ploy like that rather risky. Looking over the girl once again she noted the jacket color on the back of her chair “Ah, that explains it…” she thought to herself. She contemplated speaking up for a moment however decided against it, not wanting to come across as a know-it-all.
That still left her own answer to the question though, not really coming up with anything else she raised her hand. “Well, while I think trying to take advantage of it this way is rather risky, my example came up whenever another trainer used a poison type move against my Vulpix. They assumed she was a fairy type because Ninetails is and was rather disappointed when it wasn’t as affective as they hoped.” She said in an unintentional matter of fact tone. Internally she chastised herself somewhat, having just intentionally refrained from sounding like a smart aleck. “Perhaps it wasn’t as bad as I thought…” she thought to herself reassuringly.

Once again Diantha took care to digest each answer before formulating a response, leaning back against her desk. "You're absolutely correct that peoples confusion over which Pokemon are or are not Fairy Type grants an unusual advantage, especially when we speak defensively. The primary use of this is against a Trainer using a Dragon Type Pokemon - many Trainers still use Dragon Type Pokemon or Dragon Type moves as their 'sure thing', but since these moves do absolutely nothing against Fairy Pokemon if you feel you're battling someone who might make that sort of mistake into leaving themselves incredibly vulnerable. This holds true for other scenarios of course, such as with the Vulpix and the Poison example, but against Dragon Types is of course when Fairy Pokemon have the potential to be the most dominant." "As for the Belly Drum suggestion," Diantha nodded to Ivrant, "It's a perfectly viable move, but your example isn't especially related to Fairy Type Pokemon specifically, or peoples misconceptions about them. But," she raised a finger, "that isn't to say there isn't something we can all take note of here. As much as we've been talking about Fairy Pokemon and their typing strengths, as well as using the notions of others against them, there is something we should consider for Pokemon of every Type - no matter how experienced a Trainer you are. Every Type, indeed every Pokemon, has their own strengths and weaknesses of course. Naturally it makes sense for us to use these strengths, to lean into them, but we shouldn't do so blindly. Just because your Pokemon is strong in a particular area does not mean you should place all your focus there exclusively. If you train your Fairy Pokemon to be utterly destructive against Dragon Types with no thought for anything else then you'll quickly find yourself out manoeuvred in battle. Covering your weak points and being prepared may require far more effort from you and your Pokemon but it will bring you success in a far greater number of situations." "With that said, let's look at this issue a little deeper in relation to our examination of misconceptions. Poison is effective against Fairy, this is one of the more widespread pieces of knowledge about Fairy Pokemon, but if a Trainer tries to use this against us how can we make it become a misconception? What efforts can we take to cover this weakness and put our opponent on the backfoot?" *** Jasmine smiled and nodded, glad to see that her class had knowledgeable students in it. "Correct, those are the three Types that Steel Pokemon are weak against defensively - not many at all. Um... and... yes, of course, having another Type as well alters things but... well, there are so many variations we would be here all day going through them all..." She took a moment to smooth down her dress before answering the question posed to her. "Well. I won't, um, pretend to be an expert on Honedge. They're... not native to my region, and their... diet... is really much more typical of Ghost Type Pokemon than Steel, so my answer might not be as complete as if you asked someone with, um, more expertise in that area? But from what I understand Honedge sort of feed on a persons 'life force'... so I can see how that could be problematic and I don't think they've made a, um, artificial substitute? But I think I once heard Wilkstrom... um, he's one of the Kalos Elite Four, where Honedge is native... um, I think I heard him talk about how they can feed off battling somehow? I don't know if that's from the ambient energy or... if they feed off the other Pokemon somehow, maybe? I mean, that would make sense, really, it must be how they feed in the wild. Sorry I can't be more help..." She said, clearly a little disappointed that she hadn't been able to give a comprehensive answer. "One of the difficult things about focusing on one Type of Pokemon, like I do, is that... um, well, it's kind of impossible." She said after a moments reflection. "I mean, there are Pokemon that are only Steel Type of course, but if you use them exclusively you become much easier to beat... people would know to just keep using Fire against you, right? So you have to think about using Pokemon with another Type too, like Honedge having an advantage against Fighting Types, but then you need to start learning about Ghost Pokemon too. Which is fine, of course, I'm not... I'm not trying to say it isn't... just, it means we always have to keep learning, right? Having a Type you love the best is fine, great even, but we shouldn't box ourselves in as Trainers. So... um, who can list some Pokemon that are Steel Types but are not weak to Fire, Fighting or Ground?" *** "Fantastic, yes!" Viola grinned, "Bug Pokemon very commonly learn moves that inhibit their enemies in some way or give themselves a temporary boost in battling strength. These moves can be great tools to alter the course of a battle and place yourself in a dominant position - but!" She raised a hand in warning, "The time it takes to make these preparations can give your opponent time to make some of their own, or to do some real damage before you get a chance to fully employ your strategy. It's up to you as Trainers to find ways around these problems. There are also certain Types of moves that Bug Pokemon seem to learn quite commonly, Poison being a prime example, so I would have accepted an answer like that as well!"
"As for why so many Bug Pokemon evolve much quicker than other Types that's actually a matter of real debate and speculation. I can't give you a definitive answer there. Some people think it's related to an aspect of how some of these Bug Pokemon live in the wild - so let's talk about that! I want you to think about some of the dangers you're more likely to encounter when confronting Bug Pokemon in the wild - like Weedle for example - that on the surface should be a relatively safe Pokemon for Trainers of just about any experience level to take on and let me know what you come up with."
Right on time Sydney started to rocket her hand up... but then slowly lowered it again. This wasn't as academic a question as the others had been and the only Bug Pokemon she had battled in the wild was her own Titania, which hadn't presented any major problems. Weedle was the sort of Pokemon even little kids were able to catch, what sort of danger could it present in battle unless you were at a disadvantage to start with by using a Pokemon of the wrong Type. She started to chew her bottom lip as she looked around the room to see if anyone else was having as much trouble with this question as she was - what was there to fear about a Weedle of all things?

A steel type that is not weak to those types? That is interesting. The thought of covering weaknesses with other types didn't really come to mind. One Unovan Pokémon immediatly came to mind. ''Escavalier, right? As it's a bug type as well, it's not weak to Ground or fighting... am I wrong?''

Taking the Lead
Desmond Allen Age: 13
Desmond watched as the other students didn't seem to have an idea, even the brainy girl in the front was having issues. He couldn't help but smile a bit, finding it amusing to watch the gears moving around in her head, trying to come up with an answer. Guess she wasn't a total know it all after all. To be fair, it wasn't like Desmond was the smartest guy either, but he did at least have some sort of answer. Plus, it'd feel good to get a few extra points in Viola's eyes even if it ended up not being what she was looking for.
"So, back in Orre, wild Pokemon were pretty scarce and those who were weaker than most typically traveled in groups, especially Bug types, in order to survive the harsh conditions. So in Weedle's case, they're pretty dangerous because of the likelihood that there are other Weedle, Kakuna and Beedrill nearby."

Fairy Class, part 4
[/div] Kayrana waited as the other students spoke their minds. One boy talked about a move called ‘Belly Drum’, which Kayrana did not know—she noted it on her notebook—, but she liked the Marill; while the short-haired girl from before seemed to be giving quite short and to the point answers, and seemed to think quite a lot about which words she used. Kayrana found that totally contrasted with how she answered, which was more lengthy and mostly all over the place, never quite actually focusing on one thing, even if she did wish to be organized with what she said, it all came out as a mess. When she noticed she had stared at her too much, she looked back to Diantha, who was carefully thinking about what to say. Then she asked another question. This time, Kayrana really did not know what to answer. How to use that disadvantage as a misconception? She didn’t know much about the Poison-Type either. She raised her hand a little, but realized there was nothing she was able to say. After all, she wasn’t much of a battle-focused trainer after all. She started making little drawings in her notebook, peaking back every now and then at the short-haired girl to see if she again would have any to-the-point answer to give. Kayrana was a bit frustrated that she couldn’t find an answer, but she tried to calm herself down by patting Aurai’s head and playing with her, it was relaxing—and it distracted her from the situation—and Aurai didn’t mind either, in fact, she was pleased when Kayrana played with her; plus, Whimsi was again looking at the roof, laying on her back, pretty bored—which Kayrana thought was pretty amusing. Hah, well, at least she isn’t leaving little cotton-balls everywhere.

Rylie sat head in palm for a moment, pondering how to answer the question. Having as little experience with the fairy type as she did it was hard for her to think of anything more than just a general answer. Rylie gave a quick look around the classroom for a moment to see if someone else looked like they were about to answer when she caught a glimpse of the game girl from before looking back at her for just a moment, making her even more anxious. “No… I didn’t say it! Why was she looking back at me!?” she thought to herself in a bit of a panic, quickly looking down at her notes.
Rylie gave a long sigh in attempt to calm herself down, all she had to do for now was focus on the question. It’s not like she can read minds… right? Shaking off her nerves a but she rose her hand to give her answer. “I can think of two ways myself. Once would be to simply add a pokemon to your team that covers that weakness like a steel or rock type Pokémon. The other would be to cover the weakness using a hold item or ability. He’s not a fairy type but my Swinub would normally be weak to fire type attacks if it weren’t for his ability. In addition, I’ve started giving him an item called a Passho berry to cover his weakness to water type attacks. I’m not familiar with anything like that to help against poison type attacks but I’m sure there’s something that could help at least.” She said trying desperately to keep a rather normal tone.

"Well, its like you said. Poison is extremely effective against fairy types for one so whoever is using said Pokemon would definitely have an immediate advantage... sure you could give your Pokemon some kind of coverage against that but I don't think Buster here has the luxury of knowing Psychic or Ground type moves. As far as I know anyways." Ivrant began. "The same way having a fairy type against a Dragon would put you in a dominant position, same could be said for a poison type against a fairy... it'd be very easy to lean into a sense of security and feel sure the type advantage alone would net an easy knockdown. That'd be a prime thing to take advantage of in a fight and catch them off guard with some other trick to cover something like that right? I suppose taking advantage of that misconception of an advantage to find other flaws in battle?" Ivrant said. He wasn't too confident with this answer... part of him felt like he was overthinking this whole misconception thing but that just meant it was a good lesson to pay attention too. He shouldn't be one hundred percent right otherwise what would there be to learn out of it? Already he was putting thought into his teams own weaknesses that could be easily exploited.
"Like... perhaps the opponent would have a far slower Pokemon for instance? Perhaps that wouldn't even be considered as far as type advantage and outspeeding the opponent with a proper attack would be enough to take advantage of a weakness like that? Or perhaps they would use a move such as poison tail, yet said fairy type would have such strong defenses that even an attack its weak too would only be minor damage. I know Buster here can tank a couple of punches." He smiled down at the marill.
Like you said before about fairy types but from the opponents perspective. Training a Poison type to be utterly destructive against fairy types and not considering your Pokemon's weaknesses in their defense, speed, etcetera, could lead to that kind of situation on the receiving end right?" He had a bit more confidence explaining a bit further... he still wanted to try and make a good point! He wanted to at least look smart in front of the others...

"Oh no, you did give me some helpful tips, thank you! I'll read some books about Ghost type pokemon, and I'll battle more, I'll manage. Thanks." Said Tobias, trying to reassure Jasmine that she gave him some useful tips, and advices. A Steel type that isnt weak to Fire, Ground or Fighting He thought for a second, then raised his hand and said " Scizor, and Empoleon come to mind. Scizor takes neutral damage from Ground and Fighting type moves, and Empoleon, being a Water and Steel typed pokemon, takes neutral damage from Fire moves" He knew a bit aout Steel types, but he still needed to learn if he hoped to someday be one of the few people that have the power of Mega Evolution. He was very far away from doing that, first he needed to learn how to take care of Steel types properly, and he needed to battle and train. He always wanted to raise a Steelix, though he needed to train up his current pokemon first, as wild Onix, the pre-evolution of Steelix lives in caves, and well they're usually not too friendly to visitors, so he had to be prepared.

Day 3 (Does anyone reads this?)
Well, that was a nice change. The girl didn't answer it this time first! However, a boy said it first before Cyan could raise his hand... that gives him some extra time to think at least! So this time, some knowledge from battles and the Pokemon themselves is required. While the boy was answering, Cyan though of something to say: "So... a while back I used to train in Burgh's gym, before I moved regions. I never challenged him, just battled with whoever came up... and quite often people would expect to always be faster." Cyan noticed he was getting off track, so he tries his best to do a smooth recovery. "I guess that could translate into wild battles, were normally weak Pokemon can cause so much disruption that it leaves the trainer and it's Pokemon helpless. Weddle can slow you down, leave you immobile AND poison you, which is not good by any means. Unless you have Immunity or Poison Heal, but that's something else. Some know the move Struggle Bug and Harden, which just makes them harder to take down. While finishing his answer, he felt like he was missing something. He looks at the pokeball on top of his desk. That was Max's pokeball, his Pinsir. This reminded Cyan of something, and he completed his answer: "But not all wild Pokemon do this. Some prefer an all out offense, and tend to be more aggressive and less disruptive"Cyan felt really proud of that, even though it was really likely to have mistakes on it. Party

Ashley's introduction and Fairy Class
Sitting in the second row along the edge of the desk arrangement, a small flame flickered on the corner of the desk. The paper was wisely kept away from the Litwick and Ashley, the desks resident for the class, sat absorbing the information layed out for her ears to hear. Fairys were new enough that people hadn't really had time to research them fully like they had other types. The question of how to counter poison was an easy one. Unless the fairy had no secondary type or couldn't stand its own that is. There were really three options. Use a move strong against Poison, target it's second type if it had one, or switch to a steel type. It was really as simple as that. It didn't even have to be highly effective if it had enough stat boosts behind it and you gained advantage from your own typing. I decided to answer so that we could move on to an important question no one had yet asked.
"You simply use a move that a poison type is weak to, or target an available secondary type. A strong enough move with enough strength boosters behind it could do the job as well. Or you could simply switch to a steel/poison type you undoubtedly should have if you only train fairies. It depends on the foe in general due to how duel types effect things."
"Now, Ms. Diantha, if I may ask, how has the recent discovery of Fairy types changed the diets of Pokemon? I'm sure some dietary changes happened when a Pokemon like Ralts suddenly was discovered to be a Fairy type?" A slight pop on my desk made me look down and reveal that October was about to start burning paper. I quickly removed the slightly singed paper from October's reach and scooted him back to the desk corner. He really could be annoying.

"Quite right everyone," Diantha conceded, "You've all got the gist of it. Just because one Type has an advantage over another doesn't mean that a bout between Pokemon of those types is predetermined - Pokemon Battles are far more nuanced than that." She paused briefly as one of the previously quiet students spoke up and started asking questions about dietary requirements. "Well, we're mostly discussing misconceptions today, but I suppose this could qualify - discovering a Pokemon has a Type you weren't previously aware of could make you realise you were mistaken about the diet after all... the truth is, it hasn't been quite as much of an issue as you might think. Pokemon like Ralts or Mr. Mime who we only recently realised were Fairy Types hadn't exactly gone hungry up until then, had they?" She smiled. "In those cases the sort of feeding programmes that suited them best had already been established, even if we didn't realise that the reason for some of their preferences or requirements were because of the Fairy Type, you see? If anything our experiences with those Pokemon have proved valuable to our understanding the Fairy Type, as the scientists have existing data to parse through and analyse, you see? When it comes to newly discovered Fairy Types the process of learning their diet is the same as any other. Careful observation followed by trial and error - those methods may sound simplified but they're still at the core of everything we learn about Pokemon." "Now, as for the subject at hand, we've now explored the fact that Fairy Type are perhaps not as one dimensional as they may appear at first glance and not to simply accept limitations at face value. Specifically regarding the interactions between Fairy and Poison, granted, so who can provide examples of other challenges we face as Fairy Type Trainers? Bonus points if you can suggest a solution as well." *** "Oh, well... Escavalier is an interesting example... you're right, because it's also a Bug Type it isn't exactly weak to Fighting or Ground, but it's good to bear in mind that Bug Types are also weak to Fire, so you end up with a really big problem if your opponent brings Fire to the table. The exact same is true of Scizor too, it has the same Type combination as Escavalier. They're both really strong Pokemon though... good choices. Um, Empoleon?" Jasmine looked to the ceiling as she gave it some thought. "You're right, adding the Water Type does make a Steel Type lose their weakness to Fire but... um, it also gains a weakness to Electric to replace it, right? When you think about Type combinations it's... um, well, never just a straight improvement, it's a change. It's important to remember that your Pokemons Ability can factor in too though... like, um, Bronzor. It can the Levitate ability which makes it completely immune to Ground moves. So it can be a Pokemon that isn't weak to Ground, even though it is, if... if that makes sense?" "But... um, if you're the sort of Trainer who catches specific Pokemon, you know, as part of a planned team... it's important to remember that Pokemon can change their Type when they evolve. Escavalier, Scizor and Empoleon are, um, all examples of this actually, they don't have the Steel Type at all in their previous stages. Can we think of any other examples of Pokemon that gain the Steel type when they evolve? Or lose it too, but that... that's really unusual, actually." *** "Yes, exactly!" Viola smiled, obviously pleased with the answers from her class. "Weedle tend to live in communities of others, along with their evolved form Kakuna and their final form Beedrill. Although it's not unusual to see a lone Weedle wriggling around they're never that far from their colony. Beedrill are extremely territorial and aggressive Pokemon so if that Weedle calls out for help you could quickly find yourself in far more trouble than you bargained for - unless you're a highly experienced Trainer trying to take down an entire Beedrill hive by yourself is a pretty bad idea. The same is true of other Bug Types in the wild, such as Combee or Durant, but Weedle is a particularly strong example."
"It's true as well that a Weedle is, usually, not a very physically dominant Pokemon, but you're right! With the types of moves it has it can be incredibly frustrating to battle against if you aren't prepared - and these two points actually come together. Battling a Pokemon that lives in a community can be dangerous, as can battling a Pokemon more focused on disabling you than outright battle power. But if that same Weedle does its thing and then calls for Beedrill backup? That's a serious problem. Some people even theorise that they wriggle around as easy prey by themselves deliberately as bait, but who knows?" She grinned wickedly.
Sydney started taking notes furiously, this being the first point of discussion in class she didn't feel she already had a strong handle on. It all made sense once Viola and the other students started discussing it but her experience as a Trainer, aside from her relatively brief time on the island, had mostly been limited to the far more urban Castelia City. Not the sort of place you encountered rampaging hordes of Beedrill!
"Bug Pokemon," Viola continued, "Are one of the Types considered ideal for beginning Trainers because of their rapid growth - on average of course - but I hope that some of what we've talked about helps you all realise that there's much more to them than that. And we've barely scratched the surface, we haven't even talked about alternative evolution methods, abilities, held items... there's never a time to stop learning about Bug Types! But with that said, you've all done really well today, so let's take things a little easier with our next question. As I said, I'm the Leader of the Santalune City Gym, and we've already had some talk of Burgh, who is the Castelia City Gym Leader and also a Bug Type Specialist - even if he is a little kooky," she laughed, "So, how about some other examples of well known Bug Trainers? Extra credit if you can give an example of something particular we can learn from them!"
"Oh, oh!" Sydney nearly bounced in her seat waving her hand, thrilled to have a question she could answer again. "Aaron, he's a member of the Sinnoh Elite Four and uses Bug Types! I've seen him battling in some exhibition matches on the television and, I mean, I guess you could say that he really shows what you were just saying, Bug Types don't have to just be for beginners, right? He's one of the best Trainers in the whole world and he only uses them, right?"
"Fantastic! Yes, Aaron is indeed a top level Trainer, although there's actually some debate among the community as to whether he's truly a Bug Type Specialist or not. He proudly uses his Drapion, which isn't a Bug Type but does evolve from one, so some people think he qualifies and some people don't, it's a matter of personal opinion really! Anyone else?"

Day 3 (The class goes on)
OK, this question was exceptionally hard. Cyan wasn't the guy who would normally watch TV. He much rather use internet instead, where he can properly control what he wants to see. The few tournaments that he did watch didn't show a bug type specialist very often. However, after a bit of thinking, a name came to mind: "Bugsy! Hmm... Bugsy is a bug type specialist from Johto, right? I don't know many others..." Party

Other challenges as a fairy type trainer? Ivrant could hardly imagine what sort of answer he could give... he wasn't exactly specific on fairy types and his own challenges were mostly specific to his Pokemon in general. He couldn't imagine other fairy types being as wild as Buster. Ivrant made a mental note to ask about that little problem after class if he ended up having the chance. He didn't really have alot of experience with fairy types specifically. Ivrant decided to keep quiet on this one and instead wanted to hear what everyone else had to say. He could usually get a better idea working off others.

"Onix! Its a pokemon of the Rock and Ground type, and when it evolves into a Steelix, it gains the Steel type, and um, I think there is a couple more pokemon, but i can't seem to remember their names" Said Tobias, raising his hand. He knew prefectly well the names of the other two pokemon, but if he said them all, the other students would probably not have any answers, and they could hate him for being a know-it-all type of guy. He prefered to be on good terms with as much people as he could so he sat there, awaiting for Jasmine's reply.

Why did she have to give such an open-ended question? Rylie could give text book answers all day however she didn’t have much experience with the type itself. She could go into another spiel about type matchups and coverage but she’s played that out already as far as she’s willing to stretch it. Looking around the classroom it seemed to be rather quiet, implying she wasn’t the only one struggling.
With a soft sigh she gave up on thinking of an answer her usual way and turned to the second-best option, taking an educated guess! “Well, Fairy type was just recently discovered so there’s not as much information on it as other types, thus making them generally more difficult to raise than other types. As for a solution there really isn’t one unless you’re willing to do the research yourself.” She said with just a hint of unsureness in her voice. She figured her answer made logical sense, however it was still a guess at best.

Dallas Yukira: A tree between dorms and mountains.
Dallas had stayed up all night, looking into what type of egg he may have chosen the other day, but he had failed to find anything. This lead him to not sleeping very well and made him skip class for the day. He hand't seen Megami that morning, so he was unable to say hi to her. In fact, he hadn't seen her in the last few days. He left his room, and went next door and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
"Hmm, usually if we don't talk for a few days, she knocks on my door. She much be in class right now... why did I even knock?" Dallas asked himself, turning to walk away.
He made it outside, where it was calm, a large difference from the early mornings. It was the first time he had seen the school this calm, but mostly everyone was in class. He swiftly walked away from the dorms and out into the fields, heading to the mountains. He wanted to do some training and look for mountainous ingredients that he could use to make a new recipe for autumn. Even though he wasn't home, he still wanted to help his mother with her baking. Another thing he wanted to do, was to investigate pokemon in the mountains to see if he could figure out what type of pokemon was in the egg, so that he could prepare the correct food for it before it hatched.
He stopped at a tree to readjust his backpack. He softly placed his bag on the ground and took a knee. He unzipped his bag and checked on the egg first. The egg was a greyish blue on color and had two bright teal spots on the top of the egg and a reddish orange color across the middle of the egg. It was the same egg he had gotten from Brock a number of days ago. Every now and then, he could see it shake. Once Dallas had adjusted the egg in a more comfortable spot in his bag, he double checked to make sure he had his notebook, map and island guide in which listed the pokemon in each area, as well as ingredients that he could potentially use.
"Hello!" A crisp voice came form above, causing Dallas to jump slightly.
He looked up to see a girl who was dressed in red jacket and dark blues jeans. She had a messenger bag that hung around her chest, as well as a small video camera in her hand. She had long, auburn hair and teal eyes.
"Uh. Hi." Dallas said.
She jumped off the branch she was sitting, landing lightly on her feet.
"My name is Jenna. It is nice to meet you." She smiled, holding her hand out.
I stood and shook her hand, "My name is Dallas. Why are you out here?"
"Well Dallas, I could ask you the same question, but to answer you, I am filming." Jenna said.
"Filming what?" Dallas asked.
"Just things. You see, I really want to be a journalist. So I come out here and film ever so often so I can practice speaking about what is going on in the video." Jenna explained.
"I see. Wouldn't it be better if you had someone else to help you?" Dallas asked.
"Yeah, but sometimes my friends aren't willing to skip class, so I have to come alone. Oh is that a pokemon egg?" Jenna asked.
"Oh yeah, I got it from Mr. Brock the other day, I was going to the mountains to see if I could find any pokemon who has a similar color. As well as look for ingredients and to train." Dallas said.
"Ooo. Do you mind if I join you? I would love to help you figure out what pokemon is in the egg, I could even make a video over it!" Jenna exclaimed.
Dallas couldn't help, but smile. Jenna seemed to be a really nice girl, "Sure. I don't mind."
"Thank you!" She smiled, closing her eyes.
And so Dallas and Jenna headed off to the mountains.

Fairy Class, part 5
Start Previous (Fairy Class, part 4) Next
As soon as the short-haired girl mentioned berries, Kayrana's eyes lit up a bit—she did know which Berry was useful against Poison super-effective attacks! The thing she was most knowledgeable about that she could make use of in a Pokemon Battle were Berries, of course. It was the Kebia Berry, in this case. She jotted that down immediately—it was important for Aurai, and Whimsi, to be protected against Poison attacks. She also remembered of the Babiri Berry, which protected against Steel-type moves; as well as the Occa Berry, which would be useful for Whimsi against Fire-type, she wouldn't want to see her get hurt so much by Fire moves. So much had she thought about the Berries that she barely noticed Diantha was talking again and only took notice of it after she mentioned 'solution' which didn't give her a clue as to what she had talked about. She waited for other students to answer, to which the short-haired girl again took the lead; but if Kayrana was honest, she hadn't really said much about a solution and her answer seemed not to be that clear; but she herself couldn't do best, so she decided to wait until Diantha started talking again. Meanwhile, Aurai and Whimsi were both soundly sleeping—the class was, after all, quite silent right now.
